Many people spend more time in planning the wedding than they do in planning the marriage. - Zig Ziglar
Most of us don’t put much thought into planning our lives. For a while, I was like that.
I decided to become self-aware.
During a period of self-reflection, I became consciously aware that the phrase - the best made plans of mice and men go awry - echoed in my mind, whenever I made plans to design my life.
I’m not kidding.
Of course, there’s some truth to the statement, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a plan.
Why did I attach a negative emotion instead of a positive emotion to this statement?
Possibly a limiting belief that was handed to me, on a silver platter, when I was age 7 or younger. I owned it. And as I got older, I made decisions and choices to confirm my negative interpretation of that statement.
They say we teach what we ourselves need to learn and I can vouch for that. Over the years, two of my favorite mantras, I've used as a coach and a hypnotherapist are …
‘We spend more time planning a birthday party than we do planning our lives. And we live our lives as if we're a log, floating on the ocean, going wherever the tide takes us.’
Intellectually, I knew I should have a plan for my life but emotionally (because of my limiting belief) I didn’t accept that on a subconscious level. So, I had a conflict. A tug of war between my conscious desire and my subconscious belief.
Becoming aware of the thing that holds you back, is the beginning of change. I’m encouraging you to become aware of the plans you have for your life.
Yes, you may have to take a detour or make other adjustments, along the way but that’s part of the process of living one's potential.
Even an extraordinary life has breakdowns, setbacks, and failures.
Would you take a trip without an itinerary? Of course not.
Ponder this ... what do you do when you have an event, such as a birthday party or a wedding? Did you say plan and execute?
Your life is too IMPORTANT to live it willy-nilly.
“Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now.” ― Alan Lakein, author
